Bridal Hair Trial - An Evolution Of Ideas

July 27, 2016

Here is a small snippet into one of this years bridal trials. The beautiful Helen. So... I got a call from Helen to ask if i could work on her wedding with a couple of months notice. We booked in the day and a trial earlier on to give her peace of mind. We had a chat whilst still on the phone, and Helen mentioned that she wanted flowers to feature heavily in her hairstyle. I advised that for the trial she should visit her florist for some hair flowers on wire so easier to place into the hair. The flowers from Oops a daisy florist in Drayton were stunning. Always great to have clips/flowers/veils handy to give a thorough insight into the final look.

So I arrived on the day of the trial, we sat and spoke about ideas further. The ideas that she had were all involving big loose curls, some braids, some up... some down. So we started with the first look which was one of her favourite styles on her phone, once completed we discussed how we felt about it. What we liked, what we disliked... and this led us onto the second look. Before anything was taken down the hair was photographed at all angles and emailed across for future reference. We kept rolling through looks working the same way... perhaps got a little carried away and did 7 looks. You can see through these images how our bridal look evolved.

With a trial you should expect around on average somewhere around three looks. Sometimes you get a bride that knows exactly and it hits bang on and they don't want to try anything else... but not often. This year i have heard from alot of brides to be who have only been offered the one look. well this isn't always great as ideas change and its great to see your options. Another great one is Brides being told they can't have certain looks because of their hair... looks that iv later created for them.

Trials can last up to and around 3 hours for bridal hair and make-up. I am really fast as well as thorough as I'm used to fast paced session work so for most artists that's probably going to take that bit longer.

This gives us a good chance to try some different ideas with your hair, and work gradually building up the make-up talking through it as we go, giving you options at each point until we find your finished bridal look.

Trials aren't always necessary, I work with many brides who can't trial due to distance or wish not to due to their budget. We can correspond prior to the wedding day to build an understanding of what we are working towards, and make sure that we are on the same page.

I say they aren't always necessary but you do want to make sure that you get the rite artist for you. Check their portfolio thoroughly, make sure that they are professional, know their stuff are well established and the best fit for you! x
