1940's strike again!

The 1940s continue to be one of the most requested eras in editorial photography and book cover work, and it's easy to see why. The fashion, strength, and character of the period provide endless inspiration.

As someone who specialises in vintage hair styling and period makeup, I always enjoy working within historical themes. However, I rarely aim to recreate the exact styles everyone has seen before. Instead, I prefer to take inspiration from the textures, techniques, and overall spirit of an era while creating something that feels fresh and unique.

This shoot featured the stunning Jessamine, whose natural beauty and professionalism made the creative process effortless. As always, the photography was by the wonderfully talented Rekha Garton.

Set against the backdrop of military history and wartime influences, the shoot captured a quieter side of the 1940s. The styling was subtle, authentic, and character-led. To make the day even more memorable, an historic military aircraft happened to take off directly behind us during the shoot, creating one of those magical moments that simply can't be planned.
