How's Your French???

There is something wonderfully exciting about working on a book cover when you know very little about the story itself.

This vintage-inspired editorial photoshoot was created for a French mystery novel, giving all of us plenty of opportunity to imagine our own versions of the plot while we worked. The result was a fun, creative day filled with laughter, storytelling, and more than a few questionable French accents.

Photographed by Rekha Garton, the shoot featured three fantastic models who fully embraced the characters and atmosphere of the brief.

For the hair and makeup, I kept everything soft, natural, and understated. The styling needed to feel authentic and timeless, allowing the emotion and intrigue of the imagery to take centre stage. Sometimes the most effective hair and makeup is the styling that supports the story without demanding attention for itself.

I'm looking forward to eventually discovering the finished book and seeing how closely our imagined storyline matched the real one.:::
