High Flying Beauties

When photographer Rekha Garton calls with a new brief, I know I'm usually in for an interesting day. This particular book cover project certainly didn't disappoint.

We were granted access to an aviation museum, where four models — including myself — helped bring a story of strength, resilience, and determination to life amongst the historic aircraft. As well as stepping in front of the camera, I was responsible for all hair and makeup throughout the shoot.

The styling took inspiration from the hardworking women of the 1940s. Rather than glamorous Hollywood waves and dramatic makeup, the look focused on authenticity. Soft vintage-inspired hair, natural makeup, and understated detailing helped create believable characters while still looking beautiful on camera.

The final book cover is yet to be released, so for now I can only share a glimpse behind the scenes. It was one of those wonderfully unique photoshoots that reminded me why I love editorial hair and makeup so much.
